The organisation I work for are quite typical of local government in their reluctance to dive into the social media pool. They’re like a fat kid with under-inflated armbands, tentatively pacing around the pool wondering if they’ll be able to float.
The great news is that things are changing slowly and I’ve had sight of a draft social media policy which was actually very encouraging, considering that I’d feared a total head-in-the-sand lock down.
Even better news is that we’ve had corporate permission to set up a facebook page and other appropriate social media streams to promote a local fundraising group to help local children and families in need.
I’ll blog about the development of this as it goes along and hopefully share some experiences of things that work/don’t work, and any technical/web bits of info that might be useful.
It’s a bit of an experiment and lots of people in the organisation will be quietly watching, some nervously, though many seemed to like the idea.
Sink or swim, I’m going to get that fat kid in the pool one way or another…
Please feel free to share any advice or relevant links in the comments.
