How I got Strava premium FREE for a year.

This is the true story of how I got 12 months of Strava Premium, absolutely free.

Having noticed that you could invite your friends to join Strava from their website, I did so, noticing that if any of them actually signed up for the Premium service, I would get three months free. That sounded nice, but as I run a blog, I wondered if they had an affiliate link scheme too. This would mean publishing a link which Strava would be able to trace back to my site. From there, they could work out how many sign ups I had sent them and give me my free months in return.

There are hundreds of affiliate schemes out there which operate in this way, or which provide a financial cut of whatever transaction transpires, so it didn’t seem too off the wall to ask.

I emailed Strava with the enquiry.
The response was swift and very pleasing.

They said they had a better idea – and gave me a promo coupon code for 12 months free!
Happy bunny.

Strava are obviously smart marketers. They recognise the value of peer to peer advertising and recognised me as someone who would generate content to promote their brand, and spread it through my network. Indeed this has happened and there are at least half a dozen people that I know of who I’ve inspired to join. Their action helped to turn me from a Strava fan to a Strava evangelist, a “stravangelist”, to coin a phrase.
