I’ve been a supporter of Veloviewer since the very beginning, before it was even called Veloviewer! This week, its creator Ben Lowe announced he’s going full time on the project.
Do Give up the day job!
It’s every entrepreneur’s dream to create something that flies. Not in the literal gravity-defying aerodynamic sense but if one were to plot a chart of the number of people using Veloviewer over time, it would probably resemble the trajectory of something capable of achieving escape velocity.
“Escape velocity” is a fitting phrase, for Veloviewer has gained such momentum that Ben has just announced he has given up his day job to focus on the development of the site. It’s quite astounding that someone could develop such a functionally rich site all by themselves, in their spare time, and with a young family too. Enormous talent, and a bit of focus can go a long way, and now that Ben will have more time for Veloviewer, it’s going to be very exciting to see what comes next.
In a recent webinar with Ben, I asked him about his future plans for the site. He gave us some tantalising insights into some of his ideas, one of which hinted at branching out into apps. Here’s the webinar playlist if you’d like to catch up. (Part 11 is the one that talks about the “future of Veloviewer”)
If you haven’t discovered Veloviewer yet, and you use Strava, you’ll probably love it. And it’s completely free to try out.
How to use Veloviewer
Just go to Veloviewer.com and click on the big red “connect with Strava” button.
The site will then pull your ride data from Strava and then the magic begins…
For some more tips on how to use Veloviewer, I’d suggest watching the webinar playlist I mentioned earlier in this post. Ben shares some great insight to help you get the most out of it.
Here’s some random VV-related screenshots to give you an idea of what’s in store.
