The team behind the Hammerhead bike GPS have been very effective at stirring up support via social media, to help crowdfund their product launch.
You could say they created a Hammerhead spark (!)
Essentially, the Hammerhead is a GPS device for your bike that’s low on cost, high on functionality, and mega on funktastic-ness.
It integrates with a phone app, which brings in lots of flexibility…
With only a few days to go, we retweeted one of their posts. I think they were at about 80% at the time, so still needed to raise a fair amount of money.
@StravaTips My startup is trying to make bike navigation and Strava routes better. @Hammerhead Thoughts? http://t.co/xzbwfQAQHo

The next day, I received this tweet.
@Stravatips Thanks for the re-tweet! We are at 99% of our funding goal. All you! :)

What an awesome response. I guess that’s the power of niche marketing. Feeling spurred on, I tweeted again:
This project is at 99% of the funding it needs. @hammerhead – making bike navigation and Strava routes better. http://t.co/P28rVLMAHM

Within the hour, the target had been reached.
Unbelievable! $145,000! We have reached our goal and The Hammerhead is something we can bring to all of you! Thank you!

Hammerhead will even integrate with Strava, to give you real time segment feedback.
We are big fans of Strava, MapMyRide and some of the other biking apps out there. We believe you should experience them in real time. Hammerhead gives you turn-by-turn navigation from the routes and segments that you want to ride from your favorite app.
Now that the original target has been met, a new target has been put in place which if reached, will mean that the units will also benefit from having a barometric altimeter.
So what are you waiting for if you have’t backed the project already – go reserve yours now.
