It’s been a whole year since I first made contact with my local cycling club (Rhyl) by joining them for their annual New Year’s Day time trial.
I dabbled with a few more time trials but to be honest I’m still skeptical enough to not be interested in spending loads of money on a ridiculous helmet to shave 3 seconds off a PB. I’m 42 soon, for heaven’s sake. Who would I be kidding?
Ah, Sundays
What I did come to love in 2012 was Sunday club runs. Though I don’t make it every time, they remain a real highlight of the week; a chance to get a good ride with good company. It’s been fantastic to get to know a great group of guys whilst riding all over the beautiful North Wales countryside.
Here’s a video I made of a ride back in May.
One of the guys said it was one of the best rides he’d ever done!
Rhyl Cafe Club
Oh, of course, the cafe stops. They’re just lovely, aren’t they? You work up an appetite and then get to satisfy it completely with bacon butties and/or cake, all washed down with caffeine loaded coffee to help you pedal harder on the return journey. Magic.
The Tour de France and the Olympics did a lot of good for cycling, and clubs have generally seen an increase in numbers as a result.
If you’re thinking about getting fit, or already cycle and want to get more out of it, here’s some good reasons to join your local cycling club.
would you have the route for the club run video above please, looks an interesting one :-)
Hi Rob
We recently did a route that was more or less identical, and certainly in terms of the video, I think all the sections are covered here: http://app.strava.com/activities/55040940
