In my recent review for the Garmin Vivofit, one of the only negative points I made was that the strap sometimes catches on things and can open up. This could cause you to accidentally lose your Vivofit.

Garmin must have recognised this problem, for today I’ve received an email with this lovely message.
The headline downplays the purpose – this isn’t a cosmetic fashion accessory, it’s about protecting your investment. They do acknowledge the security issue in the middle paragraph
Vivokeeper is an easy-to-place black clasp that keeps vívofit securely on your wrist, no matter where your days activities lead you.
Mine is now on order. Thanks Garmin :-)
I bought 2 Garmin Vivofit devices about a month ago (12th October 2014) for my wife and myself from the same retailer at the same time. My wife’s Vivofit box set came with the securing band but no hardcopy manual .My box set didn’t come with a securing band but did however contain an instruction manual which outlined the importance of securing the wrist strap for prevention of loss, including an illustration. We took both sets back to retailer an hour later and outlined the problem for a reasonable outcome, i.e. I wanted a securing band, and didn’t care where from . Was told my set was older than my wife’s set but the production timestamps and serial numbers on the box and device proved otherwise by 10 months, The retailer told me that a sales rep would provide one and I had to pick it up when notified, no sign yet.. Cant help but wonder if this “freebie” offered by Garmin is just a subsequent reactive measure to overcome a greater product quality control issue addressing misleading statements relative to actual contents. Nevertheless, happy to receive one now.
I have always regarded Garmin products as top of the range but sadly the strap on the vivofit is rubbish ,the unit has fallen off twice in two days .and i cannot get hold of one of the vivokeepers as i am blocked ,when i try to get one on this site… my advice is do not buy this unit untill they sort the strap problems
ok guys, I just ordered one, and i just got the bit which is a small black piece but the rest wasn’t there, so im wondering if Garmin is a bad company, please leave a reply
My band tore, so I ordered a cheap replacement from China. Now, I am having trouble pushing in the right place to change the setting. It actually hurts my fingers! When I take the band off and push on the unit itself, it is still very hard. Is this what they do when they wear out? I have only had mine a couple of years.
I really want to keep the Garmin so I can use it in the water.
