An introduction to the Withings smart body analyser (and unboxing video).
Regular readers will know that I’ve been on a mission lately to lose a bit of weight and improve my power to weight ratio.
Quite a number of people joined me in a challenge group in May, and another one through June, to achieve their weight loss goals with peer support from the group. It’s been a great success, and one of the routine things to get right is the habit of weighing yourself accurately every day.
Determining your ideal weight as a cyclist
Another crucial factor, I’ve discovered, is that as you approach your ideal weight, your focus will shift towards power to weight ratio rather than just weight.
If you’re not careful, you could continue to lose weight, but also lose muscle and therefore power, and be no better off.
A body analyser scale such as the Withings measures your % body fat, so when you get your weight down close to your ideal weight, the aim changes. You may wish to maintain weight, whilst reducing % body fat, in other words, become more lean.
Unboxing the Withings Smart Body Analyser
Here’s a video of me opening my new Withings WS50 Smart body Analyser scale and reflecting on the benefits it will bring.
I particularly like the idea of being able to set up profiles for family, so that everyone can track themselves quickly and easily, and the unit just “knows” who is standing on it, from their unique profile. Clever stuff. It also syncs over wifi so you’ll get a very clear sense of whether your weight, and your % body fat is stable over time, or not!
Once I’ve been using the scales for a couple of weeks, I’ll post a more detailed review. In the meantime, you can find out a lot more information about this amazing, life-changing scales at Amazon.
