The Garmin Edge 1000 is the flagship model for Bike GPS, incorporating some great new functions that you just won’t get on any other bicycle GPS unit.
As well as the large 3″ colour touch screen offering full visual mapping and detailed navigation options, the Edge 1000 can sync with your smartphone and display incoming alerts regarding calls or text messages from loved ones.
Garmin Connect have developed their own version of Strava’s segments, but the crucial difference is that the segment database is accessible live in real time via the Edge 1000.
Previous versions of the Edge bike GPS only came with a basemap, which needed to be upgraded (although you can do that free in most cases with a free OSM map). The Edge 1000 now comes pre-loaded with a quality map covering some 34 countries.
Round-trip routing is another new feature. Tell the Edge 1000 how far you want to ride and it will calculate three routes for you to choose from.
