I’ve no idea why she chose the Brenig. Actually, that’s a lie. It is a beautiful place, but the road surface is mostly awful and it wouldn’t have been my first choice (or second, or third).
Taking it very easy, I stuck to a high cadence recovery ride style, and managed to resist the natural tendency to speed up to my “normal” pace.
The most important thing was that she enjoyed it and is already planning where she wants to go next. Measuring progress in the early stages of getting fit is really important for getting feedback that you’re improving, so naturally I had recommended that she use something like Strava to record her rides from the very beginning. She was delighted to discover that she was 3rd (out of 6) on one of the segments covered, and I could tell she’s already planning how to get the QoM.
