Wild Wales Challenge 2013 – The movie

Last Modified: May 6, 2017

WWC13postcardThe Wild Wales Challenge has become my favourite event of the cycling calendar.

Maybe it’s because they got the name right. It’s in Wales, bits of it are really wild, and there’s no doubting that with all those hills, it is very challenging.

Maybe it’s because there’s always a large turnout from my local clubs, and it’s great to ride around in a large group of cycling friends.

Maybe it’s because they thoughtfully devise a new route each year and there’s always something to surprise and delight you.

Maybe it’s because I’ve done it twice now and the weather has been fantastic each time. (I’ve just jinxed it for next year, haven’t I?)

Maybe it’s because the organisers liked my 2012 event video so much, they put it on their homepage.

With all that in mind, I wanted to make another little GoPro film to celebrate this marvellous event. Long may it continue. (Need a camera for your bike? check out my guide to cycling safety cameras here.)

The movie is available in HD, so hit the little settings icon and choose 720 HD (or higher if you view it full screen)

Here’s the movie.

Do let me know what you think, this one took ages!
By the way, this was filmed with a GoPro Hero2 camera but they’ve moved on a bit since then!

Terrific, all-action movie making and I particularly loved the lighting/colour – not sure how much control you had over that but your camera settings were just perfect for those gorgeous autumnal tints that were flashing by.
The change of pace/s were well augmented by your choice of music, immediately setting the next stage of the footage in context.
The film does not really convey the physical brutality involved but I’ll take that as a given!

Wow, thanks. I’ll take my cycling movie Oscar now then…
Yes it was a bit of an endurance test at times. I’ve not processed the footage at all. The GoPro does a good job as long as the light levels are good. Glad you liked the film! Thanks

Fantastic film and a great advert for the sportive. Makes you want to add it to your calendar next year! Hope the camera will be recording for the Etape this weekend?!?

Thanks Garry, glad you enjoyed it. Yes I’ll have the GoPro with me for Etape Cymru, but the weather forecast isn’t great and I find the GoPro needs good sunlight in order to produce pleasing footage.
