Strava introduces #StravaPhoto – add photos using the Strava app.

Last Modified: April 9, 2017

First there was integration with Instagram. Now Strava has brought photography straight into their own app. I ponder the reasons why we are inspired to share pictures of our rides.

Now with Strava Photos, you can add photos directly to an activity – as many as you like, anytime after you finish. It’s never been easier to document a foggy morning run or ride, sunset adventure or epic view and share it with fellow athletes.

Cycling has an incredible knack of delivering you to beautiful and inspiring places in a state of mind where you feel humbled, with that “glad to be alive” buzz.

It’s a natural human thing to want to somehow capture these crystal moments, because they feel so intense at the time. It’s part of what we live for. Being “in the moment”. Flow. It gets called different things.

Strava have brought photography into their app, so the world is about to see a whole load of crappy images of bikes and people’s feet. Yes, #StravaPhoto might become yet another boring #Facebrag.

Except some – a tiny minority – will be worth sharing. Take a look at the photographers highlighted in Strava’s blog post and you’ll get a feel for the quality of some of the images.

Just occasionally, someone captures something that succeeds in temporarily transporting us out of ourselves, and gives us a glimpse of their experience. It’s not the reality, but it makes us imagine our own next crystal moment of greatness.

When and where will your next magical moment be?
Don’t forget to take a pic.

I’m not sure my photos will be up to the standard, but I try to take a few if I spot a nice view.

I certainly like the way you can add a photo to a previous ride, so I don’t have to worry about Instagram upload etc. Now I can just take a bunch a photos en route, check them out at home later on, and upload the ones I think are good. That’s the feature I really like.
